Autumnal Masquerade: Tonight's Gonna Be a Good Night

Last night was the Fall Semi-Formal at Brooks. As always happens when we organize these events, major crisis ensued... The DJ was not the same guy we've had for the past two years, and he came without lights, his computer wouldn't work (so we were functioning off of iPods the whole time), his amp gave out momentarily, and he did not once lift the microphone to his mouth and actually serve the function of DJ. I honestly think hooking Pandora up to the Great Hall stereo system would have worked better... It was pretty bad. The rest of the night was fun, though! At one point "I Got a Feelin'" came on, and Tyler started a sort of conga line and began weaving through the other people dancing, going between the tables on the side, and even up by the high table at one point. It was pretty hysterical. A wonderful end to a pretty difficult week.

This morning I went to a workshop about International Scholarships (think Rhodes, Gates, Fulbright...). Down side: It began at 9 in the morning, when I'd been up until 2 the previous night because of the dance. Up side: I got to chat with a senior who is currently applying for the Rhodes, as well as the former head of the Truman Scholarship Foundation. After the workshop, Dean Vardaman invited Rachel and me to lunch at Bangkok Royal with a couple seniors who are applying for international scholarships and the guest professor. It was very neat! (Plus, it's always fun to have lunch on Baylor, lol.)

In other news, I have a lot of work creeping up on me... Paper deadlines are approaching, our exhibit goes up at the Dr Pepper Museum in a couple weeks, etc. It's all good stuff, though, so really, I'm quite lucky.
